The Ultimate Audio Equalizer Test

Test Your equalizing and frequency recognition skills

Getting to know the various frequencies of an audio equalizer is an important part in becoming a better sound engineer. Instinctively knowing which frequency to cut and what area to boost in order to make something sound better is more efficient and easier than wading through the frequency spectrum doing trial and error cuts and boosts.

Luckily, by doing frequency specific tests like the one supplied by Quiztones below you can train your ears so that next time you face your equalizer, you will be able to recognize the frequencies you need to handle faster than before.

Test your frequency skills

This frequency test has two sides to it. You can test your recognition skills using sine wave tones with frequency intervals of 100 Hz ranging from 100 Hz to 6 Khz.

Or.

You can also test your ears against pink noise that are based on the standardized octave values of the frequency spectrum, ranging from 31 Hz up to 16 Khz.

Push the play button and allow the tester to play its test tone or noise. Afterwards you can guess which frequency was played. It might be hard at first, but after a while it will get easier.

Your ears are your most valuable assets as a sound engineer. And having kick ass ears when equalizing means you will impress your friends, colleagues, clients and family. Because you're awesome. So train your ears and use them well.
