how to edit audio correctly

Using audio editing to clean up your tracks can make everything sound much more professional. We don't want hum from guitars or mouth noises from the singer in the middle of a dramatic piano part.

We want clean audio, free from background noise and un-professional lip smacks.

Read here below to see and hear the incredible difference in professionalism we can get just by cleaning up our audio tracks.

background noise

Compare these examples here below. In this track we have an acoustic guitar part that has some background noise. It's not edited correctly nor has any fades. Therefore we hear background noise(which is me, moving around) before the guitar part starts. For the full effect of how it sounds, I recommend using headphones.

background noise

In the picture above, we can see how easy it would be to edit these tracks. We can easily see, and hear, where the guitar part starts. And although we can't really see the shuffling noise, we can definitely hear it. So let's take out the scissor tool and cut the region just before the guitar part starts.

For an added measure we can also give the guitar region a little fade in. See the edited result below.

Listen to how much cleaner the track sounds.

Wrapping things up

It's crucial that we edit audio like this correctly. We want to take out background noise like this so all our audio sounds more professional. You do not want to hear a breath that you could have edited out when you listen to the final master of your single.

So be meticulous in going over your recorded tracks, editing out noise and fading in parts where applicable.
