Question
I stumbled upon your site after a brief browse through Audiotuts. How do I setup and record vocals from my mic to logic pro 8 using FW1884. I have tried to get this info online and everyone seems to begin their tutorials after the vocals are captured/recorded.
PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0
Logic Pro 8
FW1884
ROde Mics.
Thank You
Answer
I checked the interface you mentioned, I'm assuming it's the Tascam fw1884? It seems to have firewire out, which you should have connected to your computer.
When you plug it into your computer does Logic not automatically notice the interface? It should detect your interface automatically. If not, you can see if you can connect it at Preferences>Audio. In the Devices tab you can see your Core Audio drivers. See if you can find your FW1884 in the input output devices.
If this all goes according to plan you should just plug your vocal microphone into, say, track one on your interface. Then select input one from a newly created track and arm it.
If you are getting a signal from your microphone(be sure phantom power is on) there's not a whole lot different to recording vocals than any other instrument from an interface like this.
Just be sure you are not clipping when you are singing at your strongest. Find a good spot on the gain knob where your soft parts are audible, but strong parts aren't overloading Logic.
If you need more information, just comment on the answer and we'll take it from there
Good luck
