Multilayer Sampling

Question

I've been creating patches in my NN-19 in Reason.
I am specifically working on creating a patch for drums now, and I am using the audios from the recording session of my band's drummer.

I want to know if I can assign different samples to the same key. For example, I am programming the kick, and I have recordings of kick hits that were played with different strengths.

So I would like to assign a low volume sample to the key, that would be triggered depending on the velocity with which i play the note on my controller, and a higher volume hit for when I play the controller harder.

Can I do that with the NN-19?

Answer

In short, no. After looking through the NN-19 I didn't see any way to set certain samples to certain velocity areas. I think it just allows you to assign one sample per key, and that sample is just reproduced with more or less amplitude according to the velocity value.

But the NN-XT seems to have a very advanced sample editor where you can assign certain samples to velocities.

I cannot say I am an expert on sampling, nor the NNXT more advanced features, as I normally just use the sample banks already installed. But there is definitely a big possibility for originality and creativity inside this not-so-simple sampler.
