Taking a Pro Tools course and getting yourself a Pro Tools
certification can help many knowledgeable audio engineers in grabbing
that position at their preferred recording studio. It's just an extra
advantage to have on your resume when applying for studio jobs.
Many large studios use Pro Tools as their default digital audio workstation. Pro-Tools has been an industry standard for a long time now and it's no surprise that there are dedicated Pro Tools schools out there.
These schools teach you how to use the program and award you a certification when you complete their courses.
Taking a Pro Tools course and being Pro Tools certified can mean a lot if you are thinking about applying to a studio that does most of their work in Pro Tools.
They can be sure to hire someone that can run the system flawlessly and without hesitation rather than someone that has never touched a Pro Tools rig before.
If you are interested in a Pro Tools certification you can
search for Pro
Tools schools on the Digidesign website.
Be aware that knowing Pro Tools doesn't necessarily teach you anything about the art and science of recording.
Obviously a lot of the material goes hand in hand, but don't think that only knowing a software program is going to teach you how to be an audio engineer. There are many other factors to consider. Knowing microphones. Being familiar with recording techniques. Hearing when you need to fix something during the recording process. All these issues are not something you will learn from a software program.
Nonetheless, it can come in handy since it is the go-to DAW for most major studios.
I myself am not Pro Tools certified although I do know my way around the program. I am more of a Logic user, but I know many engineers that swear by their Pro Tools rig and wouldn't change it for the world.
That said, if you are working in an area where you know most of the studios you want to work at are using Pro Tools, you could do worse than getting yourself a pro tools certification. If only for that extra boost to your resume.
