The front person of my rock band insists that all instruments run though the floor monitors when performing.
I have never run anything but vocals through monitors and have never used a line out off my amp. We have trouble always not hearing the vocals clean enough.
We use the house systems and most use powered monitors and P.A. Most of the time my front person says I am too loud on stage but I can't hear myself most the time.
I disagree with the line out totally. I mic my amp a 30 watt tube combo and like it located behind me on a stand.

My two cents.
There is a certain art to positioning things on stage in order for everybody to hear themselves.
I would recommend turning your amp away from the front person so it doesn't interfere with what he needs to hear. Also, lowering the bass of monitors can make things clearer in the monitor mix.
I agree that you shouldn't need to us the line out of your amp. It's all a question about delicate balance and positioning of instruments, people and monitors.
