My eldest son is an incredible musician and budding engineer. He's in his 2nd year of college studying business, but I'd like to find a way for him to also study recording/mixing/mastering under a top industry studio star. It isn't just the dad in me talking, this son of mine is a true phenomenon in the making with such raw talent, patience and dedication (he spends countless hours every day in our Pro-Tools 8-based home studio trying to find and improve on the sounds he's seeking)...
How can I find a school or internship opportunity for him? We're in the Denver area now, but I'd like to steer him in the West Coast direction if it makes sense... Your thoughts?

Answer
Well, there are certainly countless schools around that offer various courses in music production and engineering. Have you looked at the Music Production Schools Resource Page? There are quite a few suggestions there.
The West Coast is filled with various music production schools and if you are only looking for small courses or "diploma" courses as opposed to full fledged degrees then you have even more options to consider. If he's already halfway through his business studies it would probably be a good idea to finish that before embarking on a different area of study. I would even go so far as to say the combination of business and audio engineering would work really well to his advantage.
There is no Nr. 1 school to go to. It's just a matter of checking most of them out, seeing how their courses are built and deciding on which one speaks to you, or your son that is.
Hope this helps.
